Te Kotahi focuses on developing interdisciplinary solutions to complex challenges, supporting the integration of m膩tauranga M膩ori, and enabling Indigenous control of Indigenous data.

Te Kotahi Research Institute was the vision of Te R艒p奴 Manukura, an advisory body representing iwi within the 糖心Vlog catchment. Our name 鈥楾e Kotahi鈥� draws inspiration from Sir Robert Te Kotahi Mahuta, the founding Director of the Centre of M膩ori Studies Research, and reflects a unity of purpose, drawing together concepts of oneness and togetherness.
1972
- Centre for M膩ori Studies and Research founded under Director Robert Te Kotahi Mahuta.
1990
- Te R艒p奴 Manukura established.
1996
- School of M膩ori and Pacific Development established.
2010
- Te Kotahi Research Institute established.
- Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith appointed as Inaugural Director. Focus on Maori-led research supporting Iwi development.
2015
- Associate Professor Leonie Pihama appointed as Director. Focus on Kaupapa Maori research supporting Iwi development.
2016
- Faculty of M膩ori and Indigenous Studies established, replacing School of M膩ori and Pacific Development.
2018
- Faculty of M膩ori and Indigenous Studies and Te Kotahi Research Institute structured into the Deputy Vice-Chancellor M膩ori Office.
2020
- Associate Professor Maui Hudson appointed as Director. Focus on interdisciplinary M膩ori-led research supporting Iwi development.
