Why study Te Tohu Paetahi?

Offered in both Hamilton and Tauranga, you can gain a Diploma in Te Tohu Paetahi or credit the programme towards your first year in a Bachelor of Arts.

The focus of this programme is to provide students with a unique M膩ori language immersion pathway with a goal to produce students who can fluently and competently speak in te reo M膩ori.

All students enrolling in the Diploma in Te Tohu Paetahi or in the Bachelor of Arts (BA) majoring in Te Reo M膩ori have the opportunity to further develop their knowledge through our Te Tohu Paetahi programme. The programme is taught predominantly in te reo M膩ori and involves taking the eight compulsory te reo M膩ori papers.

The workload in Te Tohu Paetahi is intensive. Therefore, it is important that students attend classes daily, between 9am-3pm, Monday to Friday.

Each paper will be taught in four to five week block periods, moving through to a total immersion language teaching and learning environment.

If you are interested in beginning your te reo journey with Waikato, please contact the Faculty of M膩ori and Indigenous Studies on 07 838 4737 or email tetohupaetahi@www.halfwinter.com.
