Healthy Active Living is an interdisciplinary programme that conceptualises health in a positive and holistic sense. The major focuses on key relational and communication skills that are foundational to working with individuals and their wh膩nau, supporting them holistically to improve their well-being. It pairs these skills with knowledge and skills for exercise physiology, prescription, and nutrition.

Healthy Active Living is available as a first major for the Bachelor of Sport and Human Performance (BSHP). Healthy Active Living may also be included as a second major or minor in other undergraduate degrees, subject to approval of the Division in which the student is enrolled.

To complete Healthy Active Living as a single major for the BSHP, students must gain 135 points from papers listed for Healthy Active Living, including 105 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete HPSCI101, HTHPR101, HPSCI205, HPSCI207, HTHPR201; HTHPR203 or MCOMM202; HTHPR320; and 30 points from HPSCI301, HPSCI306, HTHPR301, and HTHAL302.

To complete Healthy Active Living as part of a double major for the BSHP or other undergraduate degree, students must gain 120 points from papers listed for Healthy Active Living, including 90 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete HPSCI101, HTHPR101; 45 points from HPSCI205, HPSCI207, HTHPR201, HTHPR203 and MCOMM202; HTHPR320; and 30 points from HPSCI301, HPSCI306, HTHPR301, and HTHAL302.

To complete a minor in Healthy Active Living, students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for the Healthy Active Living major, including 30 points from HPSCI101, HPSCI205, HPSCI207, HPSCI301 and HPSCI306 and 30 points from HTHPR101, HTHPR201, HTHPR203, MCOMM202, HTHPR301 and HTHAL302. At least 30 points in the minor must be above 100 level.

Note:

The Community Health major has now changed name to Healthy Active Living. Students who commenced a major in Community Health in 2023 or prior are encouraged to contact the Division of Health for programme advice.
