Fostering strong relationships

The success of the Library depends on the strength of our relationships and how we foster and sustain these. The Library utilises user experience (UX) techniques, co-creation and co-production models with our user communities to ensure that not only do services meet community needs but that the Library also fosters a sense of belonging for all, empowering all.

A trusted partner

The Library is a trusted partner in research, teaching and learning and our services and resources add value for students and staff. Our strategic goals include supporting Open Research; the transition to open content, fostering an 鈥榦pen by default鈥 approach across both research and teaching; providing digital and information literacy teaching and training within and outside of the curriculum. We think holistically about our physical and digital spaces which encourage disruptive, creative and innovative thinking and allow for the personalisation of learning.

Custodians of taonga

The Library holds a number of taonga and is home to 惭腻迟补苍驳颈谤别颈补: the University鈥檚 collection of M膩ori, Pacific, Aotearoa and Indigenous resources. This includes associated spaces and services such as O Neher膩 the University's digital library showcasing our digital and digitised collections and are all underpinned by kaupapa M膩ori values. We provide, develop and maintain online and physical accessible and inclusive spaces and resources including over a million print volumes and millions of online resources.

Since 1964, the 糖心Vlog has been kaitiaki of taonga held by the University Library, including significant cultural and art collections.

Enhancing discovery and accessibility

The Library is responsible for a range of systems which underpin core University activities. This includes the management, maintenance and development of the institutional repository, Library Search, discovery platforms and enquiry services. The Library manages, maintains and develops the University鈥檚 record management systems and the University Art Collection.

The 糖心Vlog鈥檚 open access research repository for publications and theses produced by its academics and students.

Looking to the future

As the fourth industrial revolution deepens, the Library鈥檚 role becomes more important than ever to help navigate the proliferation of new and emerging technologies and information deluge. The Library Plan highlights some of these changes and the challenges and opportunities which exist in this environment.
